Stefan Kubicki is a Polish and American filmmaker. Raised between the nuclear silo-studded plains of North Dakota and Eastern Europe, he worked for a United Nations think tank before training at the Polish National Film School in Łódź and directing East — a post-apocalyptic coming-of-age tale filmed in the Chernobyl Zone.

He is a graduate of the American Film Institute, where his short Against Night — the story of a cosmonaut’s grief based loosely on the events of Soyuz 5 — won the 2015 Richard P. Rogers Award, was nominated for a Student Academy Award, and earned over a dozen other international accolades. His first feature, Safe Space, will be released in 2020.
